Dr. Pippa Malmgren

Dr. Malmgren is an economist who makes sense of the world economy and geopolitics by writing books, founding technology businesses, advising policymakers around the world, and through public speaking and teaching.

Her specialty is understanding the nexus between geopolitics, technology innovation, strategic security, and markets. She serves as a Strategic Advisor to C10 Labs, an AI venture studio based at the MIT Media Lab, and is a Fellow of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Foundation.

She is also on advisory boards across multiple sectors including media, technology, and global innovation initiatives, and works with organizations navigating complex global and economic shifts.

CURRENT ROLES

  • Strategic Advisor to C10 Labs, an AI venture studio based at the MIT Media Lab.
    Advisor to startups across artificial intelligence, space, nuclear fusion, lunar logistics, and subsea internet infrastructure.

  • Fellow of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Foundation (2022–2024).
    Board Member of Premios Verdes, supporting cleantech startups in emerging markets.
    Advisory Board Member at Streamline Media.

  • Founder Member of LUNARC, a project focused on establishing a human institution on the moon representing the arts and humanities.

  • Member of the judging panel for The King’s Awards for Enterprise.

Experience

Served President George W. Bush in the White House as Special Assistant to the President and on the National Economic Council.

Served on the President’s Working Group on Corporate Governance and the President’s Working Group on Financial Markets, including work assessing terrorism risks to the economy after 9/11.

Previously ran Bankers Trust Asset Management business in Asia and served as Global Chief Currency Strategist.

Later named Deputy Head of Global Strategy at UBS.

Advised the British Cabinet on trade issues as a Board Member for the Department for International Trade (2017–2019).

Senior Associate Fellow of RUSI, a leading defense think tank.
